About Shona

Dr. Shona Orfirer Maher, OTD, OTR/L, received her Masters and Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California. She completed a research residency at the USC DrEAmS Lab (Disparity Reduction and Equity in Autism Services). Through this residency, she self-diagnosed and then received a formal diagnosis of autism. She then went on to provide occupational therapy services to autistic children and those with developmental delays within the pediatric clinic and school settings.

These experiences shaped her passion for greater knowledge of autism in adults as well as the need for increased access to diagnosis and services for autistic adults, particularly women and nonbinary folks.

Shona currently works with both children and adults using a neurodiveristy-affirming framework, assisting clients in reaching their goals and living a more fulfilling life.

Her special interests include: autism, elephants, reading, and her cat.
